Relax, You Made it to 2013!

hibernation Hibernating is part of the natural tendency for many of us in the winter months, especially in cold climates like the Midwest. We eat more, slow down our pace, and being outdoors is more challenging. January, February and March don’t offer much other than cold, windy weather most days.  So in comes the heavy slow down after the craze of the holidays….

With the holidays and New Year’s behind us, everything settles back into the usual routine. Every year we work ourselves into a frenzy, trying to plan our get togethers and then are completely exhausted by January 1st! Reality sets in…it’s time to go back to life as normal…no more added hustle and bustle. One friend said to me, “I’m glad it’s over.” I think it’s fair to say that even in our most joyous moments of sharing the holiday spirit, there is a level of stress that comes along with having expectations and that’s normal. It’s nice to be back to the usual grind of daily life without the added expectations that we can have around the holidays.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays, but I could never keep that level of excitement going throughout the year. This year I’m looking forward to the average day, the usual grind, the daily routines. Most years I would have this dull feeling of, “Oh, now there isn’t any exciting event to look forward to until spring, blah.” But not this year…this time it feels different. Kind of like a happy peacefulness about life, love, and family. I’m not making any New Year’s resolutions. This year seems like a great beginning to settle into a peaceful life, relax with friends, and continue to maintain the blessings in our lives.

So keep working, keep on keeping the faith, and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
