House Cleaning

Wow, my house was filthy!  We had company coming to our house for a visit, so I began to do a few things in preparation.  Our house is usually kept pretty clean, so I didn’t think there was much to do – until I began, that is!  Suddenly, looking at my house through someone else’s eyes instead of my own, I saw something completely different than what I had been looking at and walking past every single day!

Isn’t it funny how we can be completely content with something, until we happen to look upon it from another angle?  I see people doing this with their marriages all the time.  People go through their lives, day after day, doing what they do –  until something happens that forces them to widen their scope.  What does your marriage look like from the outside?  What if someone was watching you interact with your spouse after a hard day at work?  Would you pass the ‘white glove’ test?  Or would you need a good house cleaning?  What about how you respond to your kids?  Your boss?  Your siblings? Your pets?

Many people naively think they are doing fine because there isn’t any conflict.  Or, they are comfortable with conflict, so they see it as just part of being in a relationship.  Never mind that their spouse is NOT comfortable with it.
